Beer Samples

Banjos and Beer do Mix!!!!!!!! This evening we went to Bangin’ Banjo Brewery Co. This place is tucked into the warehouse district off of Powerline between Sample and Copans Rd. I had heard about this place from several colleagues but have never been. I have to say that we were very happy to have entered this establishment. The Brewery is spacious and airy with plenty of tables and hightops. We found a spot at the bar, which was beautifully done, and checked out the beer menu posted on a large monitor. Because this was our first time there, we opted for a flight that you can choose 3 different types of beer to try. We opted for the 6 glass flight and, to keep things simple, literally ordered the first 6 on the menu. Our service at the bar was quick and our servers were very friendly. He came back with a holder that was a banjo, which I thought was a nice way to serve the flights! Our beers were in clockwise order so we would not get confused. I started with a beer called a GOSE ( pronounced GOS- A) it is an ancient salty-citrusy beer from Germany. I was blown away by this beer…it was not like anything I have ever tasted before! It was a bit salty, a bit sour, and a bit citrusy…like a very complex lemon shandy on performance enhancing drugs! I enjoyed this beer immensely and was very impressed that a small neighbor hood place was not only serving a beer like this, but brewing it on premise! I have had my share of all kinds of beers but nothing like this! Next up was a Cream Ale. Once again, another unique beer that I found refreshingly smooth and creamy with a nice finish. Beer # 3 was a Belgian Style Ale. I am quite familiar with this type of beer and this particular one was very smooth with a smokey finish. Beer #4 Amber Ale- Had a beautiful reddish color and a nutty finish…a great version of a classic. Beer #5 was called Hop of the muffin. I know this may sound weird to some beer drinkers, but I am not a big fan of IPA’s…they are just too Hoppy for my taste. However, to stay objective I tried it anyway. Honestly, I was intrigued by the name and have to say I was impressed. This beer was light and refreshing with a grassy /lemon finish. Beer # 6 was a Raspberry Cream Ale. I found the beer to be very creamy with a great Raspberry finish…not too sweet and very easy to drink. We were told that we were lucky because today they were launching several new Raspberry beers and were given free tasting samples of the new beers…all of which were very unique and good. They are happy to give brewery tours upon request, however, they will not do tours during certain stages of the process, such as cleaning. They do not serve food at Bangin’ Banjos but there was a food truck in the parking lot which made Pizzas (we did not partake but several patrons were eating them and they looked good).

About Joe I Cook

My name is Joe and I’m a resident of Coral Springs. I have been fascinated with food my whole life…perhaps, I was inspired by the great cooks in my family being of Hungarian and Italian descent. Not only do I love eating, but I think I love learning and creating food even more. I love being in the kitchen…it really relaxes me. I love food so much it’s what I do for a living working for Publix Supermarkets. I enjoy all types of food and drinks and I’m really into pairing foods and wines. As I travel around to the many fascinating places I’ve been I find that I’m drawn to food and culture even more. It’s amazing when you go somewhere you’ve never been and talk to locals about the foods you both eat…what a great bond develops! It seems that no matter what ideology, religious beliefs, or political view people have they always find a bond with food. I look forward to contributing to this food community we have bonded with.
