If you eat pizza there is no doubt at some point in your life you have eaten it cold.  What I find odd is I prefer it cold rather than reheated. When I really think about it eating a cold slice of leftover pizza is the only takeout food I will eat cold. Cold spaghetti, nope. Cold burgers or hotdogs, no freaken way. Cold Chinese food, hell no. Level 10 cold curry chicken or shrimp, you have to be out of your mind. I could on and on, but you get the point.

Why do most people eat cold pizza? I think it’s because of laziness. LOL. There is no preparation. You just take it out of the fridge and eat it.  I know nuking it in the microwave doesn’t take much effort, but we all know it doesn’t taste that good. Microwaving makes the crust rubbery and cooks it unevenly. The best way to reheat pizza is in a frying pan on medium low heat or in the oven. Each of these takes a little time. $hit, why go thru the effort if it tastes good cold.

The other day I ordered a pizza from Annie’s in Coral Springs Fl. It’s one of my favorite joints in the city I live in.  I got a large double pepperoni, double mushrooms, and double cheese pie. It arrived nice and hot. I added a little sprinkle of parmesan cheese and a whole lot of red pepper flakes. I ate three slices and put the rest in the fridge.

The next day I had a cold slice for a late breakfast and it was delicious.  As I was eating and looking at the slice it made me wonder why I like it when it clearly looks like crap (see picture). Also, it has a firm texture and coupled with it being cold makes it strange, but tasty to eat at he same time.

What Makes Cold Pizza Good?

  1. You have to be really hungry.
  2. Being Hungover.
  3. The firmness of the cold cheese and toppings.
  4. Chewy crust.
  5. Being lazy.

Don’t get me wrong I would never order a pizza cold. There is a ritual involved when eating cold pizza which must be followed in order to really enjoy it. Here are Dan I Cook’s tips on how to enjoy cold leftover pizza. You have to be home, dressed in very comfortable clothes or no clothes LOL, no shoes on, sitting in your favorite chair, and being in total relaxation mode.

Verdict

Don’t reheat your leftover pizza. Eat it cold and follow the ritual listed above. I guarantee you will become a fan of cold pizza too.

Do you enjoy eating cold pizza and if so why? I would be curious to see some thoughts on this.

Stay Hungry!
