McDonalds…Old is New Again.

I wrote a review about this Micky Ds almost two years ago. The owner later advised he was tearing down the store at 7751 West Sample Road and building a new one. I also found out this McDonald’s was the first one built in Coral Springs. Pretty cool since this is my go to McDonald’s .

Actually, the demolition of this store was way overdue. I’m glad the owner started from scratch and built a brand new one. The restaurant is gorgeous compared to the old store. Two drive thru lanes, hip coffee shop vibe interior and digital displays of the menu/food.

Observation

The kitchen is a state of the art fast food set up. You can see almost everything they are doing. As a former employee of McDonald’s back in the early 80’s, the kitchen has changed the most. All the sandwiches used to be cooked and stored in a bin where the workers would grab what they needed to fulfill an order. Unless, someone ordered a “grill” which was a special order like, no pickles, cheese or salt…All of these had to be made fresh. Needless to say, lots of food got wasted if it got slow. The sandwiches could only stay in the front bin for a certain amount of time because they had to be tossed in the garbage. My 14 year old heart would break every time I saw this. Not because 0f all of the starving people in the world…plain in simple, I was hungry as hell and I would have eaten them. Of course, my opinion has changed with my age and all that food could have fed the homeless. Great to see they changed how they hold the food. I haven’t been in one of these new kitchens but I’d love to get a tour. It looks like the protein is stored in plastic container under a temperature control. As the order comes in they remove the protein and prepare it on the bun etc…nothing is really made to order since the protein is already cooked. I find this system interesting but it’s all about volume and speed not quality in my eyes.

Food

There are a bunch of foods that I will always crave until I die. Some of them are the Big Mac, Sausage McMuffin no egg, hash browns, Chicken Nuggets and McDonald’s fries. Maybe it’s a psychological thing because, let’s face it, the food is far from stellar. I call it “food memories”… memories that transport me back to the 1970’s in the now closed St. Clements School in Wilton Manors and grabbing a quick lunch on my break from NE High in Oakland Park in the early 1980’s.

At this new McDonald’s, I ordered some breakfast for the family. I walked in so I could take some pictures for this review but I usually go in the drive thru. I ordered a sausage egg biscuit, 3 sausage McMuffins no egg, 2 hash browns and a large coffee. It was about 9:00 am on a Saturday and it wasn’t busy. My food was ready in about 5 minutes tops. I never checked my order except to take a picture of the contents. The thought never crossed my mind about my order being messed up. As I was walking out, a lady was walking in with a bag of food that she was returning for some reason. That should have been a sign to check my damn bag. LOL I get home and no $hit I’m missing a sausage McMuffin. Son of a bitch! I wasn’t even in the drive thru and I got screwed. Sucks…but I wasn’t gonna drive back to complain or get my other sandwich. Unfortunately, for this Micky Ds, I already planned on writing this review before I walked in so I’m compelled to type what happen.

The sausage sandwich, hash brown and coffee were McDonald’s good. The food was hot and worth the money I spent which wasn’t much.

Verdict

Lip Stick on a pig as I call it. The place looks great but if the staff fails, the store fails. I’m sure most of the staff are in high school but attention to detail is a must in life. What you learn now will mold you as you get older, trust me. Will I be back, of course…But today was One Beer. Stay Hungry!

Four beers = Outstanding
Three beers = Good
Two beers = OK
One beer = Needs work
Zero beers= Sucks (No beer is never a good thing.)

  1. I spent many 1980 High School lunches here, back when we were allowed to leave campus.
If I recall a pair of brothers owned it at the time. Being a teen in the early 80’s there were really only 3 places to get a job Publix (University & Sample), Burger King (Coral Springs Drive & Sample) or McDonalds (Woodside & Sample), not a target rich environment for teenage employment.
I went here for lunch several months ago because I knew they offered free WiFi, short of the counter being flipped 90 degrees not much had changed.
When it comes to franchises the food, for the most part is the same, so it comes down to service… did I get napkins in my bag?, does the ketchup dispenser work? and is their ice in the soda machine?
I also found this location failed…… however the new drive-thru is a hell of a lot easier to get through.
