In October 2020 I stopped in The Gem Eatery in Margate for a Quick updated review of their cinnamon buns. I got one regular and one pumpkin. I had them place the frosting on top so it could melt right into the bun. Great decision by me šŸ˜‚ I will say it here…. they are still THE BEST cinnamon rolls in Broward County. I wrote the below review 5 years ago and it still remains the truth. Try them out and tell me Iā€™m wrong. Stay Hungry!

Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll  and the regular Roll 2020

The Gem Eatery… Cinnamon Rolls

Margate, Fl. Pretty much of a hidden treasure community itself. I’m saying that from a food perspective. You have one of the best Vietnamese Restaurants in South Florida here, Saigon Cuisine, my favorite Mexican Restaurant, La Bamba, Lester’s Diner, probably the best IHOP in South Florida, Roosters and an excellent Dive Bar with Jesse’s Extreme. All of these cool places in this small town. Now I need to add one more and it’s the Gem Eatery. This place was ranked in Yelp’s top 100 restaurants in Broward Palm Beach. I looked at the reviews and they all were pretty decent.
What caught my eye was the cinnamon roll. As a kid I would make the Pillsbury Cinnamon rolls and be a champ. I would spread the little container of icing on top of the hot rolls and chow down. Great stuff! I’m looking at the pictures of the Gem Eatery Cinnamon Rolls and these look huge and beautiful. I can’t get my mind off of having one of these bad boys. I take my #1 Dan I Cook fan, my daughter, to sample this puppy. We walk in and there is only one table of four folks and it was about 8ish…Pretty dead. Mind you, I’ve never been here before so I didn’t know what to expect. The place is spotless and it has an open feel to it. We order the cinnamon roll to share. Within minutes it comes out layered in white icing. You can’t even see the roll! One of my eyebrows raises like the Rock and I’m thinking, I’m gonna tear this thing apart. We both dig in with knifes and forks…You can’t eat this thing with your hands without making a total mess.

First bite OMGM! That’s for ‘Oh My God Man’! Holy $hit! Are you F@xking kidding me! This is outstanding! I take another bite and the butter flavor of the roll mixed with the warm icing and cinnamon is killer. The roll is soft and easy to chew…Each bite just melts in your mouth. I bet money that no other restaurant in South Florida makes a better Cinnamon Roll than Gem Eatery. Why this place is not packed is beyond me!

You would drive by and not even know this "Gem" is here.

Verdict

This hidden treasure is a true quality find. We had breakfast, too, Pancakes etc…and it was solid. I highly recommend you go and try this cinnamon roll. It’s 6 bucks and change but it’s money well spent, trust me. Remember to tell them Dan I Cook sent you and Stay Hungry!

If you think the cinnamon bun is delicious (and it is) try Tony’s pasta and I think the mac and cheese is the best I’ve ever had. Just think they don’t have a great location. It is easy to find if you’re looking for it. Otherwise, you would not know it is there. The place is very clean and the prices are fair.

I’ll want to go in and try lunch.
