Two Slices with Mushrooms

We all have them. Certain foods that take us to a happy place in our minds. I have a bunch of them and y’all know what I’m talking about. You take a bite or sip and $hit you just feel good! I’m gonna list some: Buckeyes, those peanut butter chocolate dipped things, a Laspadas Sub, a Prime Filet mignon cooked medium, a Barrel of Rum from the Mai-Kai made with 12 year old Appleton Rum easy lime, and a nice slice of pizza.

Which brings me to this review..A slice of pizza. I was craving a couple of slices of pizza with some mushrooms. Getting a slice is way different than ordering a whole pizza. Most pizzerias make the pie for their slices a lot bigger than a regular large. On top of that, when they heat up the slice it adds a crunchy bite to the crust that you don’t get when you get a whole pie. Since I’m in Margate and want to eat on the fly I decided to hit Annie’s Pizza and Subs. I haven’t been here in years, but maybe 5 months ago I did get a pie from the Annie’s in Coral Springs. By the way, they are not owned by the same folks.

I walk in and the place looks remodeled and the cooking area looked very organized. They have a counter you can eat at but this is mostly a take out joint. They are running a two slice special with a soda for 6 bucks and change. I wanted to add mushrooms on both so my total was 8 bucks and change. I waited maybe 5 minutes, my order was ready, and out the door I went.

The Food

I peeked in the pizza box and man did the slices look good. I decided to park under a tree and just eat in my truck. I dive in and the slices are huge. They used fresh mushrooms and they were layered on generously. I picked up one slice and nothing slid off. The crust was thin and nice and hot. I took a huge bite and the crust had a solid crunch to it. They use Grande Cheese and didn’t over do it. The sauce was excellent…Not sweet, not spicy, not to much garlic, not chunky, and not over seasoned with oregano. I was impressed. I ate both slices and there wasn’t a crumb left. My mother would have been proud that I ate everything on my plate:)

The Verdict

As I was eating, that euphoria feeling I typed about earlier hit me like a sack of potatoes. I just felt happy. It’s crazy that some foods have power like that:) For just slices, this place is an easy 4 Beers. Remember to tell them Dan I Cook sent you and Stay Hungry!

Four beers = Outstanding
Three beers = Good
Two beers = OK
One beer = Needs work
Zero beers= Sucks (No beer is never a good thing.)
